Currently, Ed:gen only allows an exam to be scheduled as a single session with the full exam duration. However, for some task-based examinations (e.g. Art & Design or other long-duration assessments), JCQ regulations allow schools to split the total exam duration into multiple sessions across consecutive working days.
Because Ed:gen does not support multiple sessions under one exam entry:
The timetable report shows only one session with the full duration (e.g. 10 hours).
The Student Portal timetable also displays the exam as a single session, which does not reflect the actual exam schedule.
This can lead to confusion for students and staff, as the exam is delivered across several days in practice.
Suggest to add the ability within Programme Timetables to allow users to create multiple sessions under a single exam entry.
For example:
Exam:
Art & Design (Total duration: 10 hours)
Sessions:
Session 1 – 21 April – 9:00 (5 hours)
Session 2 – 22 April – 9:00 (5 hours)
This would allow:
The timetable report to display each session correctly
The Student Portal timetable to show the actual exam schedule
Schools to manage long-duration exams more accurately without manual workarounds
